"Thanks be to God sirs, for bringing us to such good quarters for if I do not deceive myself the ground we stand on is that of Velez Malaga" Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes
Flora and fauna
The crea of Velez Malaga suffered an intense deforestation during the long agricultural history, and that is why the original vegetation is almost inexistent. The great part of the scattered natural zones is composed of shrubs; produced by abandoned cultivated fields
The most important fauna is concentrated in three areas: the crag of Almayate, the end of the Velez River and the sand's bank, where there are predatory birds. There are 121 different types of animals. The highlight is the chameleon.
