Geography

The town of Velez Malaga is composed of two territories separated by the town of Algarrobo. The biggest territory, where you find the town centre, takes up the fertile plain of the Velez Malaga River, the extensive valley borders Malaga's hill to the east and to the west the foothill of the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges. The second territory, is situated in the west and is considerably smaller, is known as the settlement of Lagos.
A large part of the town is composed of fruit trees and some sugar cane. The subtropical crops are very important, among them the most notable are the avocado, mango, custard apple. The distance between Velez Malaga and Malaga is around 35km, and the town has an area of 157,88km2.
